Nutmeg Coffee Cake

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
- 2 grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
- 3 set aside.
- 4 in a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- 5 cut butter into small pieces.
- 6 with a pastry cutter, two forks or your fingertips, blend butter into flour mixture until it resembles fine cornmeal.
- 7 take half of it and press into the bottom of the baking dish.
- 8 in a small bowl, combine milk, egg and nutmeg.
- 9 add to remaining flour mixture along with chopped walnuts.
- 10 spoon over the mixture in pan.
- 11 bake for 4550 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- 12 let cool in pan slightly before turning out onto a wire rack to cool.
