Coffee Cake

Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or 5/8 ounce fresh yeast cake
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 3/4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds or 1/2 cup walnuts
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Recipe
- 1 heat milk to scalding. add sugar, butter and salt; heat until butter melts. cool to lukewarm.
- 2 add yeast, eggs and flour; mix thoroughly. cover tightly with plastic wrap and set in a warm place until double in volume. punch down and beat well.
- 3 butter and flour 2 9" cake pans, or a 9x13x2" pan. preheat oven to 375°f
- 4 combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nuts and melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
- 5 spread batter in cake pan(s). sprinkle with topping. bake in preheated oven 25-30 minutes.
