Coffee Cake

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or 5/8 ounce fresh yeast cake
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds or 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Recipe

  • 1 heat milk to scalding. add sugar, butter and salt; heat until butter melts. cool to lukewarm.
  • 2 add yeast, eggs and flour; mix thoroughly. cover tightly with plastic wrap and set in a warm place until double in volume. punch down and beat well.
  • 3 butter and flour 2 9" cake pans, or a 9x13x2" pan. preheat oven to 375°f
  • 4 combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nuts and melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
  • 5 spread batter in cake pan(s). sprinkle with topping. bake in preheated oven 25-30 minutes.
