Easy Coffee Cake 1965

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 3/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh dairy buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 pour oil over the brown sugar.
  • 2 sift flour, salt, granulated sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  • 3 stir in the brown sugar mixture.
  • 4 reserve 1/2 cup of the combined mixture and set aside for topping.
  • 5 add buttermilk, soda, egg and baking powder to the remaining brown sugar/flour mixture.
  • 6 combine well.
  • 7 pour into a greased 7 x 10 inch pan.
  • 8 sprinkle with the reserved topping mixture and the nuts.
  • 9 bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees preheated oven.
  • 10 cut into squares, serve warm, or at room temp.
  • 11 with whipped cream if desired.
