Easy Coffee Cake 1965

Ingredients

- 3/4 cup canola oil
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup fresh dairy buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Recipe
- 1 pour oil over the brown sugar.
- 2 sift flour, salt, granulated sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
- 3 stir in the brown sugar mixture.
- 4 reserve 1/2 cup of the combined mixture and set aside for topping.
- 5 add buttermilk, soda, egg and baking powder to the remaining brown sugar/flour mixture.
- 6 combine well.
- 7 pour into a greased 7 x 10 inch pan.
- 8 sprinkle with the reserved topping mixture and the nuts.
- 9 bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees preheated oven.
- 10 cut into squares, serve warm, or at room temp.
- 11 with whipped cream if desired.
